The third annual Battle of the Vet Hospital Stars event has come and gone, and was bigger and better than ever before. A grand total of $17,938 was raised for PetAid Colorado Disaster Service’s program through team entry fees, and a team fundraising challenge. This year, VRCC and Antech Diagnostics hosted 51 Colorado veterinary hospitals who competed in this day-long event filled with challenging field day games, team-work, crazy costumes, and camaraderie all for a great cause!
The idea behind Battle of the Vet Hospital Stars was created back in 2011 as an alternative to a seasonal Continuing Education program and for the Colorado veterinary community to rally together in a fun and new environment. Excitement quickly mounded as the idea of modeling this event after the 1980s TV show called “Battle of the Network Stars” was mentioned by John Oslick, Hospitality Manager at VRCC. “Battle” suddenly took on a life of its own and gained enthusiastic support not only from VRCC owners, management, and staff, but also Colorado area veterinary hospitals and the Denver community, growing into one of the Colorado veterinary industry’s most anticipated annual events, and one of the only events in the area that raises funds directly for PetAid Colorado’s Disaster Services Program.
Registration for Battle filled up quicker than ever with 255 participants including vet techs, doctors, and hospital staff.
The veterinary hospital teams competed for bragging rights and to display the coveted Dalmatian and Fire Hydrant trophy in their veterinary facility for the next year, in addition to a slew of prizes including free lab testing, equipment, medical supplies, gift certificates, and other amazing items provided by the event’s 45 local, regional, and nation-wide companies sponsoring the event. This event would not have been possible without the overwhelming support of our sponsors.
VRCC Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Hospital would like to extend a big congratulations to all of the winning hospitals! VCA Park Hill “pink ladies” won the costume contest, West Ridge Animal Hospital won the team fundraising challenge; Long’s Peak Animal Hospital took home third prize, while Community Pet Hospital placed second. Our Grand Prize winner of the 2014 Battle of the Vet Hospital Stars was VCA Alameda East.
September is National Disaster Preparedness month and VRCC and Antech Diagnostics saw this as a perfect opportunity to bring the Colorado veterinary community together, engage in team building activities and have a ton of fun, all while helping give back to a great organization, PetAid Colorado Disaster Services, who plays a key role in animal evacuation and pet care needs during natural disasters as well as education in disaster preparedness for Coloradans and their pets.
We are looking forward to Battle of the Vet Hospital Stars 2015 which promises to bring some new elements and twists to the challenge!
