Nicole Wingard, Hospital Administrator
Nicole joined the VRCC team in March 2018. Prior to coming on board she worked in the human side of healthcare for over 10 years in practice management and development of clinics all over the United States. She graduated in 2007 with a B.S in Healthcare Management from Lourdes College located in Sylvania, Ohio.
Nicole takes her role seriously understanding that our patients are important family members and deserve the best care. She feels strongly in that it is our duty to educate and empower the client to make decisions that are right for their pets and family. She hopes to facilitate VRCC’s vision of a hospital that is constantly improving and working hard to be the best. She hopes to continue moving the clinic in a direction of great service, exceptional communication and unquestionable trust between you the client, and us the staff at VRCC.
Nicole grew up in Toledo, Ohio and now resides in Parker with her husband, two daughters and her adopted rescue dog named “Ariel”. She enjoys watching college football, spending time with her family & friends, and reading outdoors in the Colorado sunshine.
Miriam Cabrera, Inventory / Pharmacy Manager
Miriam Cabrera holds a Bachelors of Science Degree in animal science from Kansas State University and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Universidad Nacional Pedro Henriquez Ureña in the Dominican Republic. Miriam has worked in the specialty veterinary industry for over 20 years. Miriam takes great pleasure in working with patients and their human family members as well as referring veterinarians. She is dedicated to excellent client communication and service and compassionate animal care. She currently manages the Inventory and Pharmacy at VRCC.
Miriam grew up in Puerto Rico. Miriam and her husband are the “parents” of two cats, and a new puppy! She is also fluent in Spanish. Miriam enjoys sewing cross stitching, scrap booking and family life.
Amanda Johnson, CVT, Operations Manager
Amanda moved to Colorado from Alaska to attend the Bel-Rea Institute of Animal Technology. She graduated from Bel-Rea in June of 2000 with an Associate Degree in Animal Science. Amanda joined VRCC in 2000 with the Internal Medicine department and joined the Ophthalmology team in March 2002. Amanda has special interests in holistic medicine and veterinary nutrition.
Amanda has 4 dogs (Shiba Inu and Wire-haired Vizsla (3)) and enjoys training and showing them. She is also the proud guardian of two cats.
Ruby Post, Marketing / Referral Liaison
Ruby has been part of the VRCC team since December of 2005. She started in the Oncology department, first as a technician, then in 2012 transitioned to the Oncology Practice Manager. She now oversees the Marketing and is the VRCC Referral Liaison; she works to maintain relationships with our referring veterinary community.
Ruby is a Colorado native, and has been in the animal care industry for over 18 years. She lives with her husband, 2 sons, a 9.5 year old Chihuahua/Papillon, Sophia, Barry the 2 year old cat, and the newest addition, Bruce, an 11 month old Chihuahua mix. In her spare time, Ruby enjoys cooking, reading, spending time with family and friends, and playing competitive beach volleyball.
Laurie Simmons, Coordinator Manager
Laurie is originally from a small town in Ohio. She traveled to Colorado after attending college and majored in Biology at Kent State University. She has been living here for the last 20 years. She decided to pursue a career in working with animals after moving to Denver. She worked her way up in the veterinary world and was a hospital manager at a veterinary hospital for 7 years. She joined VRCC Surgery and Orthopedics in May 2008 as a client coordinator. Now Laurie is a member of VRCC Leadership, coordinator manager and surgery coordinator. Laurie lives with her husband Patrick, their daughter, Peyton, and their 2 furry kids, Drexel that cat, and Kyuss the mini Aussie. When Laurie is not at VRCC, she enjoys biking, yoga, hiking, swimming, skiing, going to concerts, and relaxing with her family and friends.
Jennifer Steinmetz, VT, Operations Manager
Jennifer first started working with animals in 2005 participating in an internship in Gunnison, CO while pursuing her undergrad degree at Western State College. While there, she found that the hands on attention that she was giving each patient was where she wanted to be. She moved her way through multiple vet hospitals, learning the tricks of the trade and mastering her skills. She started at VRCC Emergency in 2007. When not working emergency medicine or doing relief work for the multiple practices in the building, she enjoys spending her free time with her 3 dogs, Lilly, Rockstar, Rufus and the newest addition, her cat Hendrix. When the ‘children’ are sleeping she enjoys catching up on reality news, reading the newest best sellers, watching football and spending time with her family and significant other.
Joan VanDewater, BS, Finance Manager
Joan received her B.S. in Business Administration, with an emphasis in Management, from The Master’s College in California. After moving to Colorado, she gained experience with an on-line training company before working for the Integrative Medicine Program at the University of Colorado Hospital. She then decided to take her experience and knowledge and apply it to animal medicine when she joined the VRCC Emergency services staff as Business Specialist in 2003. Joan recently moved into the new position of VRCC Finance Manager.
When not at work Joan enjoys spending time with her family, hiking, reading, and pursuing educational interests.
Sarah Warren, Operations Manager – Cardiology
After graduating from Michigan State University with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Animal Science, Sarah moved to Colorado and started working in general practice. In 2001, she joined our Cardiology team as Client Care Coordinator. She was promoted to Senior Client and Employee Coordinator in 2014 and is responsible for overall office management, staff administration, and ensuring that we are providing exceptional customer service to our clients and referring DVMs. She will continue scheduling appointments and managing much of the behind the scenes portion of our practice as well. Sarah and her husband, Marcus, enjoy many of the outdoor activities that Colorado has to offer. They also enjoy traveling and spending time with family and friends. They have two dogs, Assisi (Husky) and Louie (Bernese Mountain Dog), and a cat, Ceasar Pilache (Tabby).
