Electrical
Electrical impulses are used to help muscles contract more than
can be done voluntarily. Electrical stimulation, which is tolerated
well by most patients, increases strength and encourages use of
the muscles.
TENS is a form of electrical stimulation used to block pain signals.
In chronic injuries, the pain cycle often causes the patient to
move in a compensatory manner, creating other aches and pains.
TENS breaks the cycle of pain, making the patient more comfortable
and encouraging more normal use of the limb.
