What should I bring to the consultation?
It is important to bring as much current information regarding
your pet's condition as possible. If available, bring a copy of
your pet's medical records, current blood work, and radiographs.
Obviously it is important to bring your pet to the appointment.
What should I expect?
Once your appointment is scheduled, our surgical coordinator will
need all pertinent client and patient information from you so
a complete file is ready at the time of your appointment. After
checking in at the front desk, a technician will obtain a brief
medical history of your pet and your pet's vital signs. The surgeon
will examine your pet and discuss your pet's condition and further
diagnostic and therapeutic options available. A cost estimate
will be provided. Surgery is scheduled to accommodate your needs
as well as our schedule. If your pet is scheduled for surgery
at a later date, you will be asked to drop your pet off the morning
of surgery. Have your pet at the hospital before 6:30 AM the
day of surgery. No food is allowed after 10 PM the night prior
surgery, water is allowed up until the time you arrive at the
hospital. When it is time for your pet's surgery, we will contact
you and your referring veterinarian to let you know the procedure
is beginning. Immediately after the procedure, we will contact
you to discuss the surgery and your pet's condition. After surgery
your pet will recover in a quiet pain-free environment with continuous
monitoring. Your pet will spend at least the first night following
surgery in our critical care unit where 24 hour monitoring and
pain control can be maintained. Pain or discomfort that is not
controlled with oral medication and/or signs of complication
may necessitate additional time in the hospital. At the time
of discharge, one of our technicians and your pet's surgeon will
discuss your pet's needs and the discharge instructions.
