Stephen Lane
Board Certified Veterinary Neurologist
Diplomat of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine

A native of Colorado, Dr. Lane grew up in Colorado
Springs, graduated from Colorado State University in 1985, and pursued
a medical and surgical internship program in companion animals at
North Carolina State University in 1986. Following a strong interest
in neurology and surgery, Dr. Lane completed a 3-year residency
at North Carolina State University in neurology and neurosurgery.
Dr. Lane became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary
Internal Medicine, specialty of Neurology, in 1993 while developing
a specialty referral practice in neurology and neurosurgery in the
first Canadian veterinary referral facility offering multi-specialty
services for companion animals. Dr. Lane remained in Toronto, Canada
for 10 years.
Dr. Lane, his wife Gayle, their two children, Ashley
and Brent, two Jack Russell terriers, Annie and Tobie, and two cats,
Scooter and Jack, returned to Colorado in March of 2000.
Dr. Lane is dedicated to providing unmatched medical and neurosurgical
care for companion animals in Colorado and the nation. This is
possible with 24-hour specialized care, on site magnetic resonance
imaging (MRI), two dedicated operating theaters and a team of
certified veterinary technicians and board certified specialists
within the 18,000 square foot hospital, the Veterinary Referral
Center of Colorado.
Dr.
Kara Sessums , DVM
Residency Trained in Neurology/Neurosurgery
A native of Texas, Kara knew she wanted to pursue a career in
veterinary medicine since the 6th grade. Dr. Sessums attended
undergraduate and veterinary school at Texas A& M. After
graduation, Kara practiced at an emergency and critical care hospital
in Dallas, Texas. Realizing she had a strong interest in
neurology, Dr. Sessums completed a one-year neurology/neurosurgery
internship before matching a residency in neurology/neurosurgery
at the University of Florida. Following her strong interest
in central nervous system neoplasia, Kara completed a residency
project focusing on malignancy markers in canine intracranial meningioma. After
successfully completing her residency program, Dr. Sessums joined
the Neurology/NeuroSurgery service in August 2007.
Dr. Sessums’ interests in outdoor activities will be comforted
by the Colorado Rockies. Hiking, jogging, attending concerts
and sporting events are only a few of her interests.
Lori
Fuehrer - C.V.T., Certified Veterinary Specialist (VTS) - Anesthesia
Lori graduated with an Associates degree in Animal Sciences from
Bel-Rea Institute of Animal Technology in 1998. Prior to joining
the Neurology / Neurosurgery department at VRCC she had spent most
of her time working as an anesthesia and surgery technician. One
of her main interests in veterinary medicine has been veterinary
anesthesiology. She also has a high interest in post-operative physical
therapy. Lori is a Colorado native, she grew up in the Eastern plains,
and has lived in the metro area for 11 years. She loves spending
as much time as she can in the mountains and in nature. She enjoys
hiking, camping, and fly-fishing during the summer, and snow boarding
and snowmobiling in the winter. She also loves to travel whenever
possible to anywhere that she has never been. Her most recent vacation
was in Tokyo, Japan and Guam. She lives with her dog Nesta, and
her two cats Cyril and Rock.

Kayleen
O'Leary, Neurology Coordinator
The Neurology/NeuroSurgery service is delighted to have Kayleen O’Leary join us in April 2008. As a seasoned employee of the VRCC, Kayleen brings a strong client service background and bubbly personality to our practice. “I enjoy working at the VRCC, being able to wake up each day and happy to go to work is a great thing.”
Kayleen’s time off from work is spent on the go with her son, Kenny, at baseball practices & games, and other outdoor activities. Kayleen also enjoys spending time with her two dogs, Brandi and Miracle, Miniature Pinchers adopted after near tragic circumstances.
Kayleen looks forward to assisting you when you call Rocky Mountain Veterinary Neurology and with all of your client service needs.
Stacey
McClain, C.V.T.
Stacey McClain joined the Neurology team in August, 2005. Stacey
is a graduate of Bel-Rea. She became a Certified Veterinary Technician
in June of 2005. She enjoys devoting time to her long-time boyfriend
Ed, her 3-year-old English Bulldog, Mike, and cats Bella and Mazzy.
In her spare time Stacey also enjoys reading, traveling, hiking,
snowmobiling, and caring for her numerous plants.
Shana
Pratt, C.V.T
Shana moved to Aurora, Colorado in 2002, after living in northern
Virginia for 20 years. Shana worked in general practice for 7 years,
and graduated from Bel-Rea in December of 2003.
Shana brings a strong surgical background and positive attitude
to the neurology service, after working with the Veterinary Surgical
Service at the VRCC.
Shana loves spending time with her husband Chris and 3 dogs, Rocky,
Turkish and Sid. She also enjoys reading, movies, camping and skiing.
Nancy
Soderman, C.V.T
Nancy joined the neurology service in January of 2007, as our dedicated
Patient Care Technician. A Minnesota native, Nancy left the cold,
humid, bug ridden state to enjoy sunny Colorado, in 1992. After
graduating from Bel-Rea in 1995, Nancy became certified in 1996.
In addition to enjoying her family, Nancy cares for a farm of animals
(1 dog, 8 cats, 9 birds and 2 frogs).
Michele
Connelly, C.V.T
Michele joined the neurology team in March 2007. A graduate of Bel-Rea
in 2003, Michele was certified in January of 2004. Having worked
in two general practices, Michele brings experience with small animals,
exotics, avians and wildlife.
In her spare time, Michele loves spending time with her 5 cats,
a snake, and a variety of pocket pets. Movies, reading and outdoor
adventure consumes the remainder of her time off.
Kristin
Kelley ,
C.V.T.
Kristen joined the Neurology/NeuroSurgery team in August 2007,
after graduating from Bel-Rea Institute in June 2007. Longing
to fulfill her passion for animals as a CVT, Kristen left San Diego
and a 10-year career in event planning. Kristen brings a
sound work ethic and knowledgeable approach to the organization.
Away from work, Kristen enjoys her Arabian gelding, Cinnabarr
and her cat Sophiegato. Reading, cycling and skiing take
up what’s left of her free time.
Danielle
Wall ,
C.V.T.
Danielle graduated from Bel-Rea Institute in March 2006 and joined
a busy multi-doctor practice in Highlands Ranch. In August
of 2007, Danielle became a member of the Neurology/NeuroSurgery
team. Danielle loves working with people and their animals,
with nursing experience in small animals, exotics and pocket pets. Her
strong work ethic and outgoing nature bring a positive energy to
the service.
As a Denver native, Danielle enjoys spending time with family and
friends and taking care of her bearded dragon, Cosmo, two Guinea
pigs, Fredrick and Edward, and two Crested Geckos, Remi and Rose. Danielle
also likes to read, walk, swim and snorkel.
