What to Expect
The entire appointment will take from 2 to 3 hours. Once your
pet is checked in, the doctor will perform a physical exam and
prepare the patient for anesthesia. During the scan your pet will
receive IV fluids and be monitored using equipment that measures
heart rate, blood pressure, respiration rate and oxygen and CO2
levels. Depending on the site being scanned the MRI will take from
30 minutes to an hour and a half. Patients generally recover quickly
from anesthesia and without incident. You have the option of waiting
at the imaging center until your pet has recovered or be near-by
with a way to contact you once the patient is ready to go home.
Your pet should be fasted for 12 hours prior to anesthesia, however,
small amounts of water are permitted. Additionally, it is important
that all relevant medical records be made available to us prior
to your visit. This includes a CBC, blood chemistry panel, urinalysis,
plus radiographs, if indicated. Please have these results (copies
of bloodwork and original radiographs) sent prior to your appointment.
