Emergency Hours of OperationCVS Hospitalisation and Visits

Monday - Friday 4 p.m. to 8 a.m.
24 hours on Saturdays and Sundays
24 hours all major holidays:

  • New Year's Day
  • Independence Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas

Since our hours of operation are during the night and weekends, our doctors are not usually immediately available during daytime hours. However, we will make every effort to respond to phone calls as soon as possible. Each doctor has voicemail where you can leave a message and they will respond at the earliest opportunity. If you have an emergency situation during daytime hours, do not hesitate to call your family veterinarians or the VRCC front desk.

We encourage feedback from our clients. If you have any comments on how Central Veterinary Emergency Services can improve our services, please contact us.

Hospitalization & Visitation

HospitalizationHospitalization
If your cat or dog needs to stay with us overnight or for the weekend, we will be happy to show you the accommodations. Your pet is always in our eyesight, and is frequently checked on by our Technicians and Doctors.

Each hospitalized patient receives a Doctor examination at least every 12 hours, with more frequent monitoring by the Technicians. If your dog or cat is in critical condition we may be continuously examining and monitoring them. Written records are maintained of your pet’s condition and any treatment provided during his or her stay.

We wish we could provide you with the same staff 24 hours around the clock, but we need to get some sleep too. Staff shifts are 8-14 hours long. At the end of a shift, if your pet is still hospitalized, the next Doctor is updated on all the details about your cat or dog, so that care for your pet and communication with you are continued uninterrupted. You may end up communicating with more than one Doctor during your pet’s stay, especially if we need to provide you with frequent updates.

Visitation
We understand that being separated from your pet is extremely difficult and encourage visitation whenever possible. However, to provide the best care for your pet the Doctor or Technicians may ask that you delay or limit visitation. Healing can be an exhausting process!

What to Expect

Triage
CVES does not schedule appointments as all pets are examined on a first come, first served basis depending on the severity of the condition or injury. It is not necessary to call in advance of your visit, however our staff may be able to provide you with information to make the trip to our facility more comfortable for your pet if you let us know you are coming.

CVES appreciates your patience and understanding if another pet is found to need attention before yours even though you may have arrived first. We know your time is valuable and will do everything possible to address your situation in a timely fashion. However, emergency conditions often require extended examination and treatment times, which may require you to have an extended wait.

Emergency Vet CareTreatment Updates
Our staff is committed to ongoing communication with you during your pet's hospitalization. One of our Doctors will talk with you at least daily about your cat or dog’s condition, and confirm a continuing plan of care.

Going Home
At the time of discharge complete written instructions are provided outlining the follow-up care and medications required for your pet. The doctor or technician will review the instructions and recommendations with you addressing any questions or concerns you may have.

Keeping Your Family Veterinarian Informed
Your pet's family doctor is considered an important part of the team. A complete copy of the record, including laboratory work, and radiographs is faxed or mailed to your pet's regular doctor after the visit to help provide a continuity of care. Every weekday morning we phone the office of your family veterinarian to ensure that the information was received. If you are transferring your cat or dog directly over to another hospital, we will call to ensure that you both have arrived safely.

Estimates & Payment
Every effort is made to discuss fees prior to and during treatment and hospitalization. Payment is due at time of service. We accept cash, checks, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express and Care Credit.
