Robyn ElmslieRobyn Elmslie, DVM, Diplomate ACVIM (Oncology)

 

Dr. Elmslie fulfilled her childhood dream of becoming a veterinarian when she graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine, at the University of Montreal, in Canada, in 1986. It was during the oncology residency at Colorado State University that she became increasingly interested in research in the field of immunology. After completing the oncology residency in 1990, she embarked on an immunology research fellowship at the National Jewish Center in Denver.

 

Dr. Elmslie founded the Veterinary Cancer Specialists, the oncology department of VRCC, in 1993 with the goal of combining her clinical oncology expertise with her immunology research background to improve quality of life of pets with cancer and to contribute to the development and evaluation of innovative cancer therapies.

 

Dr. Elmslie and her husband have two sons, Cooper and Sawyer, and several pets which include two dogs, Rita and Roxy, two cats, Miles and Ethel, a small parrot named GB, Dash the bearded dragon lizard and Dynamite the cornsnake, along with many fish.  Free time is spent with family and friends enjoying the great outdoors.

Cheryl HenryCheryl Henry, CVT

 

Cheryl Henry joined VCS in July 2007 after having been an Internal Medicine technician at another emergency and referral hospital for eight years.  After receiving a degree in Psychology at Connecticut College in 1992, and subsequently working in the retail industry for five years, a career change into the veterinary field finally felt right.  In 1998 she moved to Colorado from her home state of Connecticut to attend Bel-Rea Institute of Animal Technology.  She graduated and became a CVT in June 1999.  Her two cats, Jache and Riley, continually fulfill her daily laughing quota!  Her favorite activities include road biking and golf.  Wine tasting, grilling and coffee are some other things high on the list of enjoyment.

 

 


 

Shawna SodermanShawna Soderman, CVT

 

Shawna Soderman moved to the Denver area from Missouri in 1992 to go to Bel-Rea and graduated in 1994 with an Associates Degree. She received her certification in 2000.   Shawna was in general veterinary medicine until 2003 when she joined the VRCC family as a part of the Internal Medicine group.  In January of 2007 Shawna made the move to VCS.  She and her husband, Steve, have three young children and five four-legged kids as well.  

 

 

 

 


 

Ruby LuceroRuby Lucero

 

Ruby joined VCS December of 2005 as a veterinary technician. She is a Colorado native, and graduated from the University of Denver in 2001 with a bachelor's degree in Biology.  Ruby lives with her boyfriend Ryan, their new puppy Sophia, and two kitties-Gypsy and Alexis, who were both adopted from the Dumb Friends League where Ruby worked from 2001-2004. In her spare time, Ruby competes in women's doubles beach volleyball at the open level.

 

 

 

 


 

Stacie KnappStacie Knapp, CVT

 

Stacie graduated from Bel-Rea and the University of Denver with a degree in Animal Technology.  She joined VCS in 2000 after several years in general practice.  Stacie is past-president of the Colorado Association of Veterinary Technicians and a long time board member/volunteer for ViDAS a non-profit that profits free spays and neuters in under-served communities in Mexico.  She shares her life with her husband Chris, son Holt and a rescued Chihuahua named Joppy.

 

 


 

 

Christi FabelaChristi Fabela, Practice Manager

 

Christi grew up in the San Diego area loving the sunshine and beaches. She moved to Texas where she received her bachelor's and met her husband of 13 years, Sean. The two moved to Colorado, started a construction company and began a family that now includes their two sons, two shih-tzus, a golden retriever, a boxer and a Siamese! Their free time is spent snowmobiling, camping, boating and of course the proverbial sports with the boys! Christi has been managing businesses since 1990 and is excited about learning about veterinary medicine while utilizing her skill set on the business end.

 Bethanie  moved to Colorado to attend veterinary technician school after finishing her service with the US Army in 2005.  She joined our team at Veterinary Cancer Specialists in 2007, after graduating from Bel-Rea.   She currently lives in Colorado Springs with a miniature dachshund Donny, a master destroyer of all tennis balls and with her cat, Harley, who's in love with a red vacuum named Eureka.  She spends her spare time rock climbing in the Garden of the Gods and Red Rocks , bike riding, writing and attempting to garden.

 Erica is a Colorado native. She attended the Community College of Denver where she graduated with an Associate's Degree in Animal Technology in 2006.  She worked with a non-profit hospital and  in a general practice hospital for 4 years before joining the Veterinary Cancer Specialists team. Erica lives with her rescue boxer Diesel aka "No No Bad Dog". In her free time she enjoys playing and coaching softball, riding ATV's, camping and playing poker.
