Electrocardiography
An EKG (electrocardiogram) is taken to look at the electrical activity of the
heart and to look for rhythm disturbances. We have a human, simultaneous-lead
electrocardiograph machine that gives very high quality tracings. This machine
also allows us to perform somewhat extended tracings to look for occasional rhythm
disturbances.
An EKG monitor allows me to print out the heart rate and rhythm
of critically ill animals for analysis and to adjust medications.
Some very sick animals need to have their electrocardiogram and
heart rate monitored constantly.
