Krisha Hanson, Hospital Administrator

KrishaKrisha received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Business at Texas A&M University in 2000. She moved to Denver in the winter of 2002 to pursue her dream of working with animals by attending Bel-Rea Institute of Animal Technology. Krisha graduated in June 2004 and worked with the Neurology department at VRCC before joining the Ophthalmology department in July 2005. She has recently been appointed VRCC Hospital Administrator.

Krisha has a German Shepherd Dog named Cassie. She takes every opportunity to enjoy the outdoors with her son.

Debbie Van Pelt, Medical Director, DVM, MS, Diplomate ACVECC

Dr. Van Pelt completed her veterinary medical training at the University of Saskatchewan, in Saskatchewan, Canada. She completed a one-year internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Colorado State University, followed by a one-year surgical residence at the University of Guelph, Ontario, Canada. Dr. Van Pelt then completed a three-year residency training program in veterinary emergency and critical care at Colorado State University, and in 1991 became one of the first veterinarians to become board certified in veterinary emergency and critical care. She was on faculty in the Critical Care Unit at CSU for several years before entering private practice. Dr. Van Pelt joined the Daytime Emergency team in January of 2007.

Dr. Van Pelt enjoys running, scrap-booking and going on adventures with her two inquisitive children. Zoey, a 3 year old Siamese mix, is the Van Pelt family’s feline friend who is also known by a few different names such as “Her Royal Highness” or “The Zoester”.

Jennifer Barry, Personnel Manager

Jennifer has been at VRCC since 2000. She started at the front desk as a client service representative, then changed positions in 2002 to surgery appointment coordinator. In 2012, she became one of the managers in the surgery department, and was recently appointed VRCC Personnel Manager.

She very much enjoys observing and learning about all of the specialty services offered at VRCC, and using that knowledge to educate clients and coworkers.

When she is not working, Jennifer enjoys spending time outdoors, camping, gardening, and playing with her 2 children and pets. She has a lab mix named Chance, a miniature pinscher named Nani, and a cat named Diego.

Miriam Cabrera, Inventory / Pharmacy Manager

Miriam Cabrera  holds a Bachelors of Science Degree in animal science from Kansas State University and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Universidad Nacional Pedro Henriquez Ureña in the Dominican Republic. Miriam has worked in the specialty veterinary industry for over 20 years. Miriam takes great pleasure in working with patients and their human family members as well as referring veterinarians. She is dedicated to excellent client communication and service and compassionate animal care. She currently manages the Inventory and Pharmacy at VRCC.

Miriam grew up in Puerto Rico. Miriam and her husband are the “parents” of three cats. She is also fluent in Spanish. Miriam enjoys sewing cross stitching, scrap booking and family life.

Amelia Nuss, Client Service Manager

Amelia is a born and raised Coloradoan. She received a B.S. in biology with a minor in chemistry from the University of Colorado Denver in December 2008. In 2015, she received her M.A. in counseling from Colorado Christian University. Amelia has worked in the veterinary field since 2005 and is committed to compassionate customer service. When Amelia isn’t at the VRCC she is enjoying a good book, making jewelry, going on a walk or bike ride with her husband, or spending time with her loved ones.

John Oslick, MBA, PHR, Neurology

John is a native of Pennsylvania, where he started his professional career working at The Children’s Institute, a school for children with neurological impairment and cerebral palsy. After 10 years at the ‘Tute, John completed his MBA and decided to follow his siblings to the mountain state of Colorado. He joined the VRCC team as Client Service Manager in August of 2003 and the Neurology team as Practice Manager in March of 2015.

John has been certified as a Professional in Human Resources (SHRM-CP) through the Society for Human Resource Management since 2009. John also holds the position of Treasurer of the Animal Care Foundation, a non-profit organization raising funds for low/no income Colorado families who need assistance with veterinary care for their pets. He was also named one of the recipients of the Jim Crafts Volunteer of the Year Award for 2014 due to his work on the “Battle of the Vet Hospital Stars” event, which raises money for Pet Aid Colorado Disaster Services.

John enjoys masters swimming and aspires one day to again participate on a competitive level. In his free time, John enjoys spending time with his family and friends.

Ruby Post, Marketing / Referral Liaison

Ruby has been part of the VRCC team since December of 2005. She started in the Oncology department, first as a technician, then in 2012 transitioned to the Oncology Practice Manager. She now oversees the Marketing and is the VRCC Referral Liaison; she works to maintain relationships with our referring veterinary community.  Ruby is a Colorado native, and has been in the animal care industry for over 15 years. She lives with her husband, 2 sons, their 6 year old Chihuahua/Papillon, Sophia, and their 14 year old kitty, Alexis. In her spare time, Ruby enjoys cooking, reading, spending time with family and friends, and playing competitive beach volleyball.

Regan Rising, Cardiology

Regan moved to the United States from New Zealand in 2003, where she worked on a cutting horse ranch for several years before getting her associates degree in veterinary technology from Bel-Rea Institute of Animal Technology.

Regan joined RMVC as a technician in 2009 and was promoted to Director of Operations in 2013. Her primary responsibilities include the management of our technician staff, working closely with our drug studies, and day to day operations. Regan is an incredibly skilled technician and manager, and her combined talents ensure that RMVC is always able to provide the highest level of care to our patients and timely communication with our clients and referring veterinarians.

Regan is passionate about her patients, client education, and building the very best technician team possible. Her special interests in cardiology are Continuous ECG holter analysis for arrhythmias and congenital defects such as patent ductus arterioles.

In her free time, Regan enjoys wine tasting, snowboarding, and spending time outdoors with her two dogs, Jade (Great Dane) and Reggie (French Bulldog),  her daughter, and husband, Dustin.

Laurie Simmons, Coordinator Manager

Laurie is originally from a small town in Ohio. She traveled to Colorado after attending college and majored in Biology at Kent State University. She has been living here for the last 14 years. She decided to pursue a career in working with animals after moving to Denver. She worked her way up in the veterinary world and was a hospital manager at a veterinary hospital for 7 years. She joined VRCC Surgery and Orthopedics in May 2008. Laurie lives with her husband Patrick, their daughter, Peyton, and their 3 other furry kids, Drexel, that cat who has used 3 of his nine lives, Puck the Pug and Lemmy the Affenpinscher. When Laurie is not at VRCC, she enjoys biking, yoga, hiking, swimming, skiing, going to concerts, and relaxing with her family.

Joan VanDewater, BS, Finance Manager

Joan received her B.S. in Business Administration, with an emphasis in Management, from The Master’s College in California. After moving to Colorado, she gained experience with an on-line training company before working for the Integrative Medicine Program at the University of Colorado Hospital. She then decided to take her experience and knowledge and apply it to animal medicine when she joined the VRCC Emergency services staff as Business Specialist in 2003. Joan recently moved into the new position of VRCC Finance Manager.

When not at work Joan enjoys spending time with her family, hiking, reading, and pursuing educational interests.
